Superintendent Search Update for the 2025–26 and 2026–27 School Years

The Lind–Ritzville Cooperative School Boards have initiated the process of selecting an Interim Superintendent to serve for the 2025–26 school year following the departure of Superintendent Don Vanderholm. To support this effort, the Boards have partnered with Northwest Leadership Associates, a respected educational leadership search firm, to identify a qualified interim leader who can guide the district through the coming school year.

Due to the timing of Superintendent Vanderholm’s departure, the Boards have made the strategic decision to place an Interim Superintendent for one year. This approach allows for a more thoughtful, inclusive, and comprehensive process to identify the next permanent Superintendent who will begin in the 2026–27 school year.

By appointing an Interim now, the Boards can ensure that staff, families, and community members have meaningful opportunities to help shape the long-term leadership of our schools. A full search process will begin in fall 2025 and will include several opportunities for input, such as community surveys, staff and public forums, and listening sessions with finalists. This feedback will be carefully considered alongside reference checks and interview results as the Boards select the next permanent Superintendent.

Experience has shown that beginning the full search in the fall and posting the position in the winter months (December–January) attracts a stronger and more diverse pool of candidates. It also allows the Boards to build a candidate profile that is well-informed by community and staff priorities.

At the time of this writing, Northwest Leadership Associates has identified seven qualified applicants for the Interim Superintendent position. The Boards will soon review application materials, conduct reference checks, and meet with selected candidates, including input from district leadership, to determine who will best lead the district during this transitional year.

This overview represents the beginning of an ongoing process. Updates will be shared regularly with our stakeholders to ensure transparency and clarity. The Lind–Ritzville Boards remain committed to making decisions that are grounded in community values and focused on continuing the district’s strong traditions while advancing student and staff success.

We thank you for your continued support and engagement during this important transition.
