Winter Weather Closure & Delay Information

2025-26 Weather Closure & Delay Letter  English | Spanish

As winter sets in, adverse weather conditions may require adjustments to the school schedule, including delays, closures, or early releases. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. Key factors considered in our decisions include road safety, subfreezing temperatures, and local weather conditions such as snow, ice, or freezing fog.

How to Stay Informed You can find updates through these channels:

  • Official School Facebook Pages: Lind Elementary School, Ritzville Grade School, Lind-Ritzville Middle School, Lind-Ritzville High School, and Lind-Ritzville Cooperative Schools.
  • Local Media: Tune in to local TV and radio stations.
  • Automated Alerts: ParentSquare Alert notifications to parent contact numbers.

We aim to announce delays or closures by 6:00 AM. The district may change a 2-hour delay to a cancellation if weather conditions worsen. If changed, we will notify families about closures by 8:00 AM.

Note: If you do not receive a message or see announcements, schools are open and operating on schedule.

Specific Information on Delays & Closures

2-Hour Delay:

  • Buses: Operate on a 2-hour delay. Example: If a bus normally pick ups students at 7:25 AM, it will pick up students at 9:25 AM on a 2-hour delay schedule.

  • Building Openings: Buildings open at 10:15 AM, and classes start at 10:30 AM.
  • All Lind Elementary & Ritzville Grade School Preschool classes are cancelled. Transitional Kindergarten will be on a 2-hour delay and will follow regular dismissal time.

Friday Delays:

  • If a delay occurs on a Friday, the school day extends to 3:10 PM for RGS and LES, and 3:15 PM for LRMS and LRHS.

Athletics and Activities:

  • When schools close for hazardous conditions, all out-of-district transportation, field trips, practices, and events are canceled unless announced otherwise.

Early Releases:

  • While rare, an early release may occur due to worsening conditions. Notifications will be sent via ParentSquare Alert, and schools will make every effort to contact parents before dismissal.

Important Reminders

  • Make-Up Days: While delayed starts do not require make-up, canceled days will be made-up. If needed, Snow Make-Up Days are scheduled for 3/5/26 and 5/22/26.
  • ParentSquare Alerts: Look for "Lind-Ritzville Cooperative Schools" or 509-659-1660 on your caller ID. Please avoid calling back to ensure lines remain open for emergencies.
  • Keep Contacts Updated: Ensure your phone numbers and contact preferences are current with your school office.

We hope this information helps everyone understand the process we use to make the best possible decision for everyone within LRCS. Let’s work together to ensure safe travels and a productive winter season!
