Lind-Ritzville High School Stage 4.0 with Cohorting
-
When: November 16th, 2020
What is New About this Stage?
It has always been our goal to phase into an all-day, every-other-day schedule without cohorting students. We are almost there! In this stage, our goal is to minimize the possibility of having to quarantine large groups of students and staff in the case of a possible COVID-19 notification in our building. To do so, we had to be creative in our scheduling so that we could maximize the length of class times, have students attend all their classes, and increase the social aspect of school. Below is the layout of the week.
- If your child is a Freshman or Sophomore, your child will come to school on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 AM to 3:15 PM.
- If your child is a Junior or Senior, your child will come to school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 AM to 3:15 PM.
Additional Information:
What about Fridays?
- If your child is not an all-day, designated remote learner, and he or she is failing more than one course and/or has incompletes from last Spring, your child will be required to attend school on Fridays from 8:30 am to 10:30 am.
How Exactly Did You Cohort Students?
- Freshman and Sophomore students will be cohorted by being placed in the Red, Blue, or Green cohort. Juniors and Senior are in two cohorts. These cohorts are based on "like" schedules, and nothing more.
- There are generally equal amounts of students in each cohort, who will travel to four classes on Monday and four classes on Wednesday. The class order is not the same as the schedule on Skyward.
- Students may be in a different cohort on each day.
- Students will never cross into a different color cohort on a given day, even during lunch.
How is This an Improvement?
- Each class will be 85 minutes in length
- All students go to all their courses
- We have carved out time for mentoring and advisory for most students
- Student will be able to cook, conduct labs in Science, and work with tools and equipment at the Ag Shop.
So, My Child only Has School Two or Three Days a Week?
- No, that is not the case. Your child has on-campus learning two days a week, distance learning (using Google Classroom, work assigned during on-campus days, and some Edgenuity work) on the other days. Fridays are for those who are at-risk of failing a course or have incompletes from last Spring.
How are You Addressing Health and Safety Measures?
- Custodians, staff and students will sanitize rooms before departing to the next class.
- On average, a student will share a class with about half of the students in his or her cohort that day.
- Masks are required, except when eating lunch, and during lunch, we are using extreme social distancing guidelines for those who stay on campus
- Equipment and tools will be used by one student at a time, and they will be cleaned properly between each student use.
- Students will be reminded to wash hands during restroom breaks, not share headphones, writing utencils, or food during the school day.
Is Breakfast and Lunch Being Served?
- Yes. The food for breakfast and lunch will be "grab and go" style. There is no fee for breakfast and lunches for any student (this is a state guideline and is funded by the USDA).
- Students will grab breakfast in the commons and eat in their 1st period classroom
- At lunchtime, we will stagger the release times, where students who want school lunch will be able to grab a lunch and go to a location designated for their cohort.
- Freshman and Sophomores will be able to eat in the Art Room, Science Room, Collaboration Room, Commons, or Ritzville Grade School. These will be designated Red, Blue or Green rooms, and students who stay on campus for lunch must remain with their cohort during lunch.
- Juniors and Seniors will eat in all the same rooms, except the Ritzville Grade School Cafeteria.
- The open campus rules are still in place. Students are encouraged not to share rides with others to and from their destinations at lunch.
Is Breakfast and Lunch Being Delivered on Non-School Days?
- No, but we are giving out the next day's breakfast and lunch at the time your child departs from school. Again, this is free to all students.
Will Busses be Running Their Regular Routes?
- Yes. This includes on Fridays.
If my Child is Learning Remotely, is He or She Getting Behind?
- No, that is not the case. Your teachers will still be posting school work notifications on Monday mornings, along with any additional work outside of Edgenuity through Google Classroom. We will continue to use Edgenuity as the primary curriculum for remote learners.
- If your child is a Freshman or Sophomore, your child will come to school on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 AM to 3:15 PM.
